Kick off your next meeting with a five-minute, reorienting exercise I call a Leader Moment. Thought-provoking conversations or questions, Leader Moments change the mindsets of everyone in the room so that your team can be more present and productive.

Your new Leader Moment is:

What are we doing especially well right now?

Focusing on collective success builds camaraderie and momentum. Reminding and acknowledging ourselves of what we’re doing well increases the likelihood we will continue.

So ask the question and listen attentively to the answers in the room. Ask follow-up questions when applicable. Allow every person to take a moment to discuss and enjoy what’s working. Then emphasize how these successes are contributing to the mission you all share.

The entire exchange should take about five minutes.
