Tip: USE THE RUMOR MILL.

Need to get a message spread throughout your organization––fast? Nothing works better than the rumor mill. People hate to keep a secret and love spreading juicy news that they’re not supposed to share, so use this urge to your advantage.

Just follow these few simple steps, and everyone will hear your message by the end of the day:

  1. Gather together a group that represents of your population well––and make sure to include any known “gossips.”
  2. Welcome the reps and share a few pleasantries to put them at ease.
  3. Say what you want to be widely communicated, but before you say it, say emphatically these seven magic words: “This needs to stay in this room.

Note: You may think I’m joking, but I’m dead serious. It’s a never-fail technique. Other phrases that I’ve found effective are:

“Did I say that out loud?”

“Forget that you heard that.”

“This stays between us chickens.”

Until next time.
